Mapping
Inaccurate or inconsistent product data on external platforms (channels) can lead to synchronization errors and workflow inefficiencies. SmartFeeds provides a comprehensive mapping module to help you precisely link product information, ensuring seamless data flow and optimized channel performance. This guide covers navigating the mapping screen, managing various data settings, and leveraging advanced features for enhanced control.
This article is ideal for users who need to connect product information to external platforms, customize field mappings, manage advanced data options, and optimize data synchronization and workflow efficiency.
Prerequisites
- A basic understanding of product data and external platforms (channels).
- Familiarity with data structures and field mapping concepts.
- (Optional) Knowledge of data transformation techniques for advanced mapping
Table of Contents
Mapping Screen Overview
When entering a product flow, a Map button at the center of the screen provides access to the mapping feature. This screen is divided into three main sections:
Top Options
- Channel Filter: Streamline your view by filtering channels of interest.
- Editor mode Toggle: Switch between formula editor and SQL editor for formula customization.
1. Attributes Section
The "Attributes" section lists all fields available for synchronization. Ensure at least one channel is configured to access this section.
Key Features:
- Search Bar: Quickly locate and filter attributes using the search bar.
- Field Indicators: A number next to each field name shows how many specific formulas exist for that field. Hover over the number to see the associated channels and jump to them.
Example: If "DESCRIPTION 1" has the number 1, hovering will reveal the "Google Merchant Center" channel. Clicking navigates directly to the relevant formula.
2. General Section
The General column allows you to set default values for attributes.
Options:
- Enter Raw Text: Populate fields with plain text values.
- Map Imported Fields: Link an attribute to an imported field.
- Formula Management:
- Hover to preview formulas.
- Use the pencil icon to edit, or the "+" icon to add new formulas in the editor.
Attributes in the General column cascade their values to empty fields in the Channels column.
3. Channels Section
This section displays the channel-specific mapping for each attribute.
Features:
- Requirement Types: Default view shows required fields for each channel. Hover over a cell to access the formula editor.
- Custom Sorting: Sort by attribute name, mandatory fields, or alphabetically by channel.
- Field Status:
- Fields with an asterisk (*) indicate mandatory requirements.
- The column header displays how many mandatory fields have been completed.
Error Manager
The Error Manager provides visual cues and tools for resolving issues:
- Red Dots: Indicate attributes with errors.
- Error Module: Navigate errors using the arrow buttons.
- Error Highlights: The red section identifies the problematic attribute in the channel.
Quick Answers to Common Issues
What should I do if an attribute is missing in the platform?
Refer to the Data Export article to ensure the platform supports the desired attribute.
How do I decide between formula editor and SQL editor?
Use the formula editor for simpler mappings and SQL editor for complex, custom rules. See the Rule Editor article for more details.
Can I sync a single attribute across multiple channels?
Yes, you can use the same attribute and apply unique formulas per channel.
